St. Michaels Elementary

Welcome to St. Michaels Elementary!

I want to thank all of our parents who attended the PTA mtg. last month. Your input will make a real difference for our school!  Additionally, I wish to thank all of the families who attended our Back to School Night, Pit Beef Sale and PTA Book Fair.
This year, I’d like to renew our tradition of a Back to School picnic. We are asking for all families to come out and have a great time together—celebrating the beginning of a new and exciting school year THIS Friday from 5:30-7:30.  We will have lots of great things for our families to do.  After this year, we will hold this annual event in the beginning of September.
NOTE: This year, we are a Title I targeted assistance school.  This means that those students who qualify for additional Math services, shall receive them.  We have contracted with University Instructors to provide this valuable service.  If your child(ren) qualifies, you will receive a letter explaining these services.  Please send back the parent surveys! Thanks.

A Tree-mendous Effort!

We appreciate your support in our reading initiative.  The success of our students is rooted in a strong community/school partnership…

This month, we will kick off our community-wide initiative called “Tree-mendous Readers!”  We are asking each student to read as many books as they can for the school year.  Each student will set a goal for the number of books s/he would like to read this year.   During this time, we are asking all adults in the community to read too.  Come in and read to us if you wish!!  When you see a child out in the community, please ask him/her, “So, what books are you reading, and what are they all about?”  When students complete their goal, we will give that student a blue ribbon to tie around a tree in the community.  When you see a blue ribbon on a tree, you will know that it came from an AWESOME READER at St. Michaels Elementary School.  Stop by and tell us what books you are reading. You just might get a blue ribbon too. Please join us in this effort. It is our hope to plant the seeds of literature around town.  Imagine the pride that will bloom in the hearts of both community members and students as they drive around town and see the growth of our readers.    Look for more info to come…  You will also begin to see posters and baskets of books located in area restaurants, doctors’ offices and local businesses.  SMES encourages you to share a book with a child while you are waiting for your services.  Happy Reading! ☺
