Congratulations to Mrs. Robin Werner, Talbot County Public Schools 2013 Teacher of the Year! Mrs. Werner is a high school science teacher at St. Michaels Middle High School. She received her BS degree from West Virginian Wesleyan in Biology and is currently enrolled at Gratz College, pursuing a Master’s degree in Differentiated Instruction.
During her teaching career in Talbot County, she has participated on the new teacher recruitment team, the School Improvement Team, attended Educator Effectiveness Academies and been an HSA Biology assessment reviewer at the Maryland State Department of Education. Mrs. Werner is currently teaching the Biomedical Program through Project Lead the Way and also teaches Biology/AP Biology. She has been Prom Advisor, Yearbook Advisor and Junior Class Advisor, while coaching JV Soccer and Varsity Softball.
“We are thrilled to have Robin represent TCPS in the Maryland State Teacher of the Year competition. Her innovative ideas and tireless dedication to her student's success make her an outstanding candidate,” said Dr. Karen Salmon, Superintendent.
As part of her commitment to educating ALL students, she is a member of the County Equity Team that focuses on the achievement of our students of color. She is a member of the Collaborative Action Research for Equity team (CARE) in her building to assist colleagues in addressing equity issues and the needs of under-represented populations. Helga Einhorn, principal of St. Michaels Middle High School notes, “Mrs. Werner truly does care about the success of every student. She is creative and relentless in developing instructional strategies to engage and reach all of her students. ”
