- FAFSA Application

In order to receive scholarship money, students and their parent/guardian must complete the Federal Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form. All colleges and universities require this form to be completed. The FAFSA needs to be completed as soon as possible after October 1st (as the parent/guardian tax information is used). The FAFSA can be completed online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Tax returns from two years prior are used to complete the FAFSA. (Example: Filling the FAFSA out in October 2017 would use the tax returns from 2016).
- Graduation Requirements

1) 22 credits
- English – 4 credits
- Math – 3 credits (Must take Algebra 1 and Geometry)
- Social Studies – 3 credits (U.S. History, Government, and World History)
- Science – 3 credits (Must take Biology)
- Technology Course – 1 credit (Could be Tech Ed, Intro to Engineering, or Foundations of Computer Sci)
- Health/Physical Education – 1 credit
- Fine Art – 1 credit
- Foreign Language – 2 credits OR Career and Technology Program – 4 credits
Seniors must have a full schedule unless they are doing one of three things: 1) taking Dual Enrollment courses through Chesapeake College, 2) doing an Internship in the community, or 3) working due to financial hardship (this option must be approved by Mrs. Elzey). Seniors must take a Math Course their senior year.
Most 4-year colleges expect 4 credits of Math (including Algebra 2) and 2 credits minimum of the same Foreign Language. Please check with the specific college of interest to see what they require.
2) 75 Service Learning hours
3) HSA/PARCC Scores in Algebra 1, English 10, Government, and Biology

Maryland Scholars Course of Study
- 4 Credits of English
- 4 Credits of Math (Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2)
- 3 Credits of Lab Science (Biology, Chemistry, and another Lab Science -Physics preferred)
- 3 Credits of Social Science (US History, World History, and Government)
- 2 Credits of the same Foreign Language
Students must attain a GPA of 3.0 to qualify
Financial Rewards for MD Scholars:
Academic Competitive Grants (ACG)
The US Department of Education has allocated an additional $4.5 billion in college tuition grants over 5 years for State Scholars who qualify for federal financial aid. Pell-eligible students who completed the MD Scolars course of study could qualify for an Academic Competitiveness Grant - $750 (for college freshmen) and $1300 (for college sophomores).
- Dual Enrollment

TCPS partners with Chesapeake College to offer college courses to students still in high school. Each semester, Chesapeake College offers college courses at St. Michaels High School. These courses are only for St. Michaels High School and Easton High School students. Chesapeake College staff will also come to the high school to register Dual Enrollment students for classes. In order to be eligible for Dual Enrollment, students must meet the following criteria:
- Be at least 16 years of age
- Be able to provide their own transportation (if taking classes at campus)
- Be a junior or senior in high school
- Have a 2.5 or higher GPA
Students must complete a Chesapeake College application and a Dual Enrollment form (signed by the parent and the guidance counselor), prior to testing/registering for classes. Forms needed for Dual Enrollment are listed below. These forms can be turned in to your student’s guidance counselor. For more information, check at www.chesapeake.edu.

If you are interested in playing sports in college, we recommend you register with the NCAA. Only student athletes registered with the NCAA can be considered for athletic scholarships.
