SM United Sound Musicians Will Perform in Rose Bowl Parade

St. Michaels Middle High School (SMMHS) is proud to announce that three students have been selected to perform in the 2021 Rose Parade in Pasadena, California. Elisabeth Toby, Katie Stang, and Caroline Bentz were all selected by United Sound, a nationwide organization whose mission is to promote instrumental music education for students of all abilities. These students applied for three of only 24 spots nationwide. The United Sound participants will be marching with the 300 piece “Bands of America” Honor Band comprised of students from all 50 states. Along with performing in the Rose Parade, students will also perform at Disneyland marching down main street and at BandFest, held at Pasadena City College.

All three students have participated in the SMMHS chapter of United Sound since its inception last year. SMMHS is proud to have been the first school in the state of MD to offer United Sound to its students. The United Sound partnership is slowly spreading across the eastern shore to create lasting friendships and memories for countless music students.

“We congratulate Elisabeth, Katie, and Caroline on this once in a lifetime opportunity,” said Mr. Chris Flaherty, SMMHS Band Director,  “We look forward to seeing them next year on the nationally televised Rose Parade from Pasadena!”

The students have begun raising the necessary funds for the trip.  Their fundraising pages are: “Send Liz and Katie to the 2021 Rose Parade with United Sound” (Facebook) https://www.facebook.com/donate/1480201738814699/10157815947726287/
