TCPS Grant Funded Literacy Coaches Making a Positive Impact!

This school year TCPS received a $1.78 million grant from the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE).  The three-year grant provides funding for literacy coaches, professional learning for school-based literacy teams to improve instruction across all content areas, and needed resources to support these initiatives. The grant is one of $43.3 million in grants made to Maryland school districts to help advance literacy among students from birth to grade 12.

“It is very exciting to see the program transform from an idea on a grant application to a reality in our classrooms.  We have watched the collaboration, creativity and synergy around the literacy coach program build in our schools since September.  The positive impact on both students and teachers is clear, and we look forward to seeing the continued growth and engagement in the 2019-20 school year. "   Dr. Helga Einhorn, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction

Funds for the program came through the three-year $45 million federal Striving Readers’ Comprehensive Literacy Grant, awarded to MSDE last year.  It was the largest competitive grant awarded to MSDE in nearly three years.   For TCPS, the funding provides one early childhood, three elementary and three secondary literacy coaches, as well as one digital literacy coach.

The Talbot County Public Schools Education Foundation is excited to announce our second annual, “Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader?” to be held on Thursday April 25, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. in the Easton High School Auditorium.  Six teams of 5th graders from TCPS Elementary Schools will test their knowledge and skills, answering questions from a broad range of categories.  Each team will be paired with a Celebrity Guest from our great community!  Proceeds from the event will benefit the Education Foundation’s Grants for Teachers program.
