STUDENT EXTENDED SUSPENSION OR EXPULSION
I. The Talbot County Board of Education believes that in order for all students to be successful, all professionals in the school community must do whatever is possible to provide appropriate educational services for each and every student regardless of race, creed, gender, sexual orientation, disabling condition, or national origin. The Talbot County Board of Education is committed to promoting effective learning, maintaining a positive environment of order, safety, and discipline.
II. Serious behavior or continued misconduct may result in a student’s removal from the
classroom or school environment. The removal may range from an in-school suspension, short-term suspension (3 school days or less), long-term suspension (between 4 and 10 school days), extended suspension (between 11 and 45 school days) or expulsion (45 school days or longer).
III. Although suspensions and expulsions are necessary at times, student discipline shall be based on the goals of fostering, teaching, and acknowledging positive behavior, and be designed to keep student connected to the learning environment so that they will graduate college and career ready.
IV. The Superintendent shall establish extended suspension and expulsion Administrative Regulations.
