High School Diplomas for World War II, Korean Conflict and Vietnam Veterans Who Withdrew Prior to Graduation

I.Purpose

To grant high school diplomas to individuals who withdrew from a Talbot County

Public School to enlist in the United States armed forces during World War II, the Korean Conflict or the Vietnam War.

II. Background

The Maryland General Assembly authorized the State Board of Education to issue a high school diploma to any individual who withdrew from a Talbot County Public School to enlist in the United States armed forces during World War II, the Korean Conflict or the Vietnam War.

III. Procedures

A. Eligibility

1. Students who were enrolled full time as seniors in a Talbot County Public School and withdrew to enlist in the armed forces during World War II, the Korean Conflict or the Vietnam War.

2. Individuals who were honorably discharged from military service.

B. Application Process

1. Letters must be submitted to the Office of Student Services. The following information is required:

a. The individual's name at the time he/she withdrew from school

b. Date of birth

c. School last attended

d. Year of withdrawal

2. The completed information and proof of honorable discharge (DD-214 from the appropriate branch of the armed forces) should be sent to Talbot County Public Schools, Office of Student Services.

C. Responsibilities of the Office of Student Services

1. Provide general information about eligibility requirements for diplomas for veterans affected by this regulation

2. Issue applications and provide guidance on gathering supporting documentation of military service

3. Verify information provided by applicants and ordering diplomas
