The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum will present The Apprenticeship That Saved My Life: An Evening with Cory McCray on Thursday, April 30, at 5:30 p.m.
Cory V. McCray’s debut book, “The Apprenticeship That Saved My Life,” illuminates how mentorship, skilled trades, and second chances create powerful pathways to success for individuals and communities. Drawing on his journey from growing up in Baltimore to becoming a journeyman electrician and State Senator, McCray offers a practical guide for students exploring apprenticeships and businesses seeking to invest in talent.
Join us on Thursday, April 30, at 5:30 pm in the Van Lennep Auditorium or virtually during National Apprenticeship Week for an in-depth conversation on building stronger foundations for the next generation of workers and leaders, followed by a book signing. Lauren possesses a rare talent for "instructional architecture," but her contribution to our school goes much deeper. Whether she is leading PD to share her expertise with staff or guiding the next generation of professionals as the NTHS advisor, he is constantly investing in and strengthening our community. The Talbot County Board of Education holds Regular Board Meetings on a monthly basis at the Talbot County Education Center. The Board begins Regular Monthly Meetings at 5:30 p.m., only for the purpose of voting to close the meeting pursuant to the State Government article (Section 3-305 ( b )) (1) (to discuss the appointment, employment, assignment, promotion, discipline, demotion, compensation, removal, resignation, or performance evaluation of appointees, employees, or officials over whom this public body has jurisdiction; any other personnel matter that affects one or more specific individuals to discuss the superintendent contract; and (Section 3-305 ( b )) (7) and (8), to consult with counsel to obtain legal advice on legal matters and consult with staff, consultants, or other individuals about pending or potential litigation).
The open portion of the Regular Board Meeting begins at approximately 7:00 p.m. The public may attend in person or view the meeting via livestream by choosing the “Livestream” video camera icon on the TCPS Diligent Community Home page. TCPS Families, please mark your calendars!
Talbot County will welcome nationally recognized author and workforce expert Mark Perna on April 13 and 14, for two community events designed to help parents and families better understand how to connect education to real opportunity and guide their children toward a successful future.
Hosted by the Talbot County Department of Economic Development and Tourism in partnership with Talbot County Public Schools, the free events will take place Monday, April 13, at Easton High School and Tuesday, April 14, at St. Michaels Middle High School from 5-7 p.m. Parents, families, and community members are invited to attend.
From 5–6 p.m., guests will experience an open house featuring the full range of programs and opportunities available to students. At 6 p.m., Mark will deliver a keynote that challenges assumptions and sparks new thinking about how we prepare the next generation.

As provided in the Board-approved calendar, there is no school for students on Wednesday, April 1, with teacher-in-service and grading.
All TCPS schools will be closed from Thursday, April 2, through Wednesday, April 8, for Spring Break. The District Office will be closed on Friday, April 3, and Monday, April 6.
Normal schedules for all students and staff will resume on Thursday, April 9.

Congratulations to Elizabeth Myers, First Grade Teacher at Chapel District Elementary, for being honored with the TCPS Education Foundation Teacher of the Month Award!
Ms. Myers has a natural ability to build strong, meaningful relationships with both students and families, creating a foundation of trust and support that extends beyond the classroom. She fosters a positive and inclusive learning environment where all students feel valued, supported, and empowered to succeed. She demonstrates a deep understanding of her students’ diverse needs and consistently implements thoughtful strategies and accommodations to help each child reach their full potential. In addition to her outstanding work in the classroom, she has served as a mentor teacher to interns, reflecting her leadership and commitment to developing future educators.
She maintains strong connections with colleagues, families, and students alike, and is known for her positivity, encouragement, and willingness to go above and beyond in support of others. Her relationships help strengthen the sense of community at Chapel. Elizabeth is truly an asset to her school community and we are so grateful to have her at CDES!!
