TCPS APPOINTS STUDENT REPRESENTATIVES TO BOARD OF EDUCATION

Easton High Senior Shiza Gondal, and St. Michaels High Senior Georgia Crow will represent their schools as student members of the Talbot County Board of Education for the 2026-2027 school year. Shiza and Georgia were selected following an application and interview process; they were officially sworn in at the September 9th Board of Education Meeting.

Shiza has served on the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council since her Freshman year at Easton High and the Maryland Youth Advisory Council since her Junior year. She has been active in Student Government, serving as Treasurer for her class, and currently as Executive President. She is co-founder and President of the Women’s Empowerment Club and a member of the National Honor Society, the Spanish Honor Society, the BEST & GOLD clubs and the Interact Club. Her interest in pursuing a legal career led her to attend the State Trooper Explorer Program and the FBI Academy.

While pursuing rigorous coursework, including a total of 10 Advanced Placement (AP) classes, Shiza has earned recognition on the Principal’s Honor Roll and as an AP Scholar with Distinction. Also active in Athletics, Shiza has played Warrior Soccer for four years, and has participated in wrestling, lacrosse, and indoor track.

Shiza is also active in the greater community, volunteering for the Waterfowl Festival, the Chapel District Elementary Carnival, Talbot Optimist Club, and Teen Court. She is employed part-time at the Easton Family YMCA working with youth programs.

“I’m really excited to have been given the opportunity to serve as a representative on the Board of Education for EHS,” Shiza said. “Advocating for my peers has always been something I’m passionate about, and I’m grateful to have the opportunity to represent their voices in this role. I’m also incredibly thankful to Mrs. Harper, Mr. Bagshaw, Mrs. Pippin, and Dr. Davis for believing in me and trusting me to take on such an important responsibility.”

Georgia Crow is the current President of the St. Michaels High Student Government Association, having served as Vice President as a Junior. She has participated in the S.H.O.P. (Students Helping Other People) club since her Freshman year, and is the club President this year. As a Junior, she chaired the Prom Committee, and participated in SAIL (Students Advancing in Leadership) during her sophomore year. She has played Saints varsity field hockey all four years and was the Team Manager in her sophomore year. She has also been a four-year member of the Varsity Tennis team, serving as team Captain in her Junior year.

Georgia’s coursework includes completing the Biomedical Career and Technical Education Pathway, dual enrollment at Chesapeake College, and Advanced Placement (AP) courses. A member of the National Honor Society and the National Technical Honor Society, Georgia has been recognized for the Principals Honor Roll, SMMHS Character Awards, and the Minds in Motion awards for scholastic and athletic achievement. She has participated in YoungLife, a Christian community youth group, since seventh grade, and maintains certification in CPR and First Aid through the American Heart Association. She is employed as a server at Bonheur Pie and Ice Cream in Easton.

“As a lifelong St. Michaels Saint, I am so excited to represent my school as the Student Member of the Board for TCPS in the 2026/27 school year! I have been looking forward to this opportunity,” Georgia said, “and I can't wait to use my ability to help the community that made me who I am today!”

“We are pleased to have Shiza and Georgia represent their schools as Student Members of the Board this year,” said Dr. Sharon Pepukayi, Superintendent. “The Board values their input and feedback on important issues in our district, and enjoys hearing the monthly reports and highlights from their school communities. They have hit the ground running in this new leadership role, and I know they will do an excellent job!”
